Joyce Blegen was a painter who worked extensively in two-dimensional media: oil, watercolor, monotype and woodcut printing, and drawing. Her works in handmade paper are essentially paintings and collages in which the compositions, textures and colors are created exclusively from paper pulp and other natural fibers, formed and dyed in her studio.
Art Education: Graduate, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, with further study at North Shore Art League, Winnetka, Illinois; Minnetonka Center of Arts and Education, Wayzata, Minnesota; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota. She taught oil painting for five years at the Minnetonka Center of Arts and Education. She was an active member of the California Society of Printmakers, The Blue Bay Press, and Nordic 5 Arts. She had 19 solo shows, 71 invititational shows, and 55 jury shows in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Chicago, and San Francisco Bay Area. She won ten awards in 55 competitive jury shows for work in oil painting, prints and drawings. Her work hangs in many private, corporate, and institutional collections.
